A year ago, I had no idea what 2018 really had in store for me. Boy, it had plans that I couldn’t possibly have foreseen. I knew my marriage was not doing well, and it progressed to me moving out in the early Spring, followed up by a divorce as soon as possible. It was quick and painless, mostly.
But, what I didn’t see coming was everything else.
After I moved out, I was ready to face the world alone, again. I have done it before, and it doesn’t bother me to be alone. In the beginning of 2018, I had started to think that I wanted to move out of the U.S. Find a place where I can make my videos, be around happy people, and most of all a warmer climate. Thailand became the front-runner quickly. Then…
A friend introduced me to this lovely lady he knew from Thailand. We got along great. We have many of the same values, sense of humor, and goals in life. She is the best person I have ever met. I can’t say enough about her, and you know where this is going. We fell in love with each other, and I didn’t even see it coming. It hit me like a brick, and I am the happiest man because of that.
I had a goal now. I have to visit her in Thailand, so I went in the late fall, and spent two weeks there. I was so happy being around her, I hardly got my camera out to make videos.
On another note, because of all of the personal stuff I had in my life, I barely made any videos for the Let’s Go Road Trippin YouTube Channel. In fact, I only made 23 videos. I was very upset at myself for that, but I also really couldn’t find the time or motivation to do it.
The channel gained about 1000 subscribers, and I am surprised the channel grew at all. The number of views for 2018 was less than 2017, which is no surprise, since I put many more videos out in 2017.
In late October, I had something intriguing happen. I was offered some money to make Let’s Go Road Trippin videos every week for 6 months. If I made 1 per week, up to 4 per month, I would get a per video payment. That payment is not a bad one either. It is not enough to cover all of my bills, but it has alleviated some stress for me.
That was the kick in the pants I needed. It has given me back the motivation I needed to get things going again. I have been working hard since then to put one video out per week, and will continue to do it after those 6 months expire. I am doing more than 1 video per week, too. I have been doing 2, and sometimes 3 videos per week!
It made me reflect and figure out what kind of videos I really wanted to be putting out there. I really want to put a concerted effort to grow it into something bigger. That is when I realized that I want to do something about people paying too much attention to their phones. I say it many times that it bothers me to see people with their faces buried in their phones and missing out on real life. Like everything else, social media is OK when consumed in moderation. But, I see people on it all the time. That is not good for the individuals, or society as a whole.
So, my new focus is to encourage people to put down their phones and #JustExploreIt. Help me spread the word by sharing the videos, articles, and anything you feel will help.
Now, I am flying to Thailand again for a month. This time, that fantastic woman and I are getting married. I still plan on moving to Thailand, but that is more of a 2 year plan. Sooner, if possible. I will be making videos this time while I am there, as I really want to encourage people to explore the world. The only way I know how to do that is by exploring it myself.
Thanks for your time
Until Next time..
