I recently watched a video about traveling to Thailand.  Click here to see the video.  In it, he talks about getting your house in order.  And he doesn’t mean paying your bills and making sure the door is locked.  He is talking about having your head straight.  I occasionally experienced people who were not ready for travel when I was a tour manager.

People who have a negative outlook on life tend to see everything in a negative way.  That is no way to be while traveling.  Imagine seeing the Grand Canyon, the Great Wall, or The Pyramids for the first time and thinking, “Meh, whatever”.

I have actually been that way, and I usually regret feeling that way after the trip is over.  I think to myself, “why did I go see that and not truly appreciate it, or even enjoy it?”

You don’t want to be a negative Nancy on a trip.  Whether you are with people or going solo, the trip will not be a fond memory for you.

I have also seen someone who had every right to be super negative during a 3 week trip, and was actually having a good time.  Before the trip even started she had a horrible life event and decided to just go on this 3 week trip to the other side of the world with a group of strangers.  She even had something negative happen about every 2 or 3 days that would have sent most people over the edge.  From having luggage broken by the airline, as well as something in her luggage breaking. She twisted her ankle at one point.

Everyone on the trip would understand if she were crabby.  She was quiet, but mostly she was enjoying the experience.  She has kept in touch with the people in the group since then, and looks back on the trip with fond memories.

She had her house in order.

But, How do you get your house in order?  You need to adjust your way of thinking.

I try to always think positive.  Try to think of something to be thankful for in a bad situation.  Little habits like that.  I am not perfect, but I am making progress.

I am not the expert at all, there are countless books and videos out there that are a far better resource than me.  You can google”becoming a positive thinker”
